Parallel Connections for Faster Downloads
Downwave splits a file into up to 16 parts and downloads them at the same time, then joins them into one file. On servers that limit the speed of each connection, that adds up to a much faster download. You see every connection’s progress, the speed and the time left.
Pause and Resume Without Starting Over
Pause any download and pick it up later, even after closing Downwave or restarting your PC. Progress is saved every few seconds, and Downwave checks that the file on the server has not changed before it continues, so the parts always belong together.
Send Downloads Straight from Chrome
With the Downwave extension, clicking an installer, archive or disk image in Chrome opens Downwave instead. The link and file name are filled in; choose the folder and the number of connections, and Downwave takes it from there.
Keeps Going in the Background
Close the window and Downwave can keep downloading from the notification area. Click its icon to bring it back, or pause everything from the tray menu. Downwave asks what to do when you close it, and can remember your choice.
Speaks Your Language
Downwave is available in English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Brazilian Portuguese and Russian. It follows your Windows language, or you can pick one from the View menu.

How to Download Faster with Downwave

Q: How much faster will my downloads be?

A: It depends on the server. Many servers limit the speed of each connection, and there Downwave’s parallel connections can make a large file several times faster. A server that does not allow partial downloads gets a single connection, at the normal speed.
Q: What can Downwave download?

A: Direct links to files over HTTP and HTTPS, such as installers, disk images, archives, videos and documents. It does not save streaming videos from sites like YouTube, and files behind a login may need to be downloaded in your browser.
Q: Will I lose my progress if my PC restarts?

A: No. Downwave saves its progress every few seconds. After a restart, open Downwave and click Resume. If the server supports it, the download continues where it stopped; if the file changed on the server in the meantime, Downwave starts it again rather than mix old and new parts.
Q: How do I connect Downwave to Chrome?

A: In Downwave, choose Help > Install Chrome extension and follow the three steps: set up the connection, turn on Developer mode on Chrome’s Extensions page, and load the extension folder. After that, clicking a file link in Chrome sends it to Downwave.
Q: Can Downwave overwrite my files?

A: No. Downwave never replaces an existing file. A download is saved under a temporary name and gets its final name only once every byte has arrived.
